11/24/2023 0 Comments Lake thunderbird state park beach![]() ![]() He kept up his intimidation and kept shining his bright flashlight into my eyes on the way. We told the ranger to come see our site, which he did. It was very aggressive behavior.Īs we were just strolling in the campground walkway, we didn't have our ID. Out of the clear blue in a campground, when we are peacefully walking and minding our business. No introduction, no conversation, just 'let me see some ID'. I have traveled all over the world, and am a mature person. I have NEVER been asked for my driver's license by a policeman or ranger, or anyone in law enforcement, in my whole entire life, other than a traffic violation. ![]() This one ranger came towards us with his truck, and had his bright lights shining in our eyes, blinding us, and just demanded my ID, in an unfriendly aggressive manner. We walk with flashlights when it is dark in the park, and make sure that we are visible. As a matter of fact, my husband, who was the one who drove into the campground did not see it. The park ranger arrived 3 hours later, when my husband and I were on a walk, and why hunt for people who have already extiguished their fire, why not look for active ones, and warn people.Ī park should also have obvious signs that clearly state there is a fire ban, and perhaps other rules that are important, or at least a handout, especially since they have plenty of hosts that collect your fee and interact with campers. I guess, they realized no one else had one, and since we were out eating at the picnic table, they asked if there was a fire ban, and when we said 'yes', they extinguished their fire. ![]() This couple, was camping almost across from us, and they started a camp fire in a ring. We had nothing to hide and did nothing wrong, but were mistaken for some other couple. This is a state park! Had I known that perhaps crimes do take place here, and that there is unfriendly surveillance by suspicious bullying rangers, I would never have stayed here. ![]() I have never been to a place where a ranger acted like that. The ranger with whom we had an encounter was not polite nor friendly. Rangers who patrol parks are always friendly and are helpful, and they are there for the safety of campers, and not harrasment of people. Therefore, I googled it, and there are several negative reports about the park ranger behavior. Definitely going back with the kids.We had a most unusual and disconcerting experience in this lovely campground today, which made us seek more information on it. There’s also a bike trail and horse back riding, and lots of visitors who put on displays and races with their boats and jet skis. The beach was the cleanest and largest I’ve encountered from the lakes throughout the state I’ve visited. There’s also a 30-mile walking trail and an “expert” trail to discover. Once at the lake, I stopped by the fishing dock, ate homemade pizza at the Marina, hiked for two miles and finally sat on the beach just reading a book and taking panoramic photos. So you’re exposed to different environments within a short drive. There was even a country store and an old-fashioned gas station right off the interstate. Lake Thunderbird is only 50 minutes away from my house, and once I was directed off I40, it was eight miles of country roads to drive through. I have visited several other Oklahoma lakes I managed to enjoy as much as one possibly can after a 2 - 4 hour drive. It was lively, large and had a variety of activities to enjoy. ![]()
